Community Visioning Process

The Community Building Institute and Middletown Moving Forward presented their Community Visioning report to City Council at last night’s meeting.

I’ve talked extensively on this blog about what we need to get back to paving streets and providing the best quality services to our residents again.   That’s the need piece.

The visioning process is the want piece.   What do we want as a community to enjoy living, working and playing in Middletown?

Ideas for the visioning process were organized into six areas:

  • Arts, Entertainment, and Recreation
  • Education
  • Health, Wellness, and Safety
  • Housing and Neighborhoods
  • Jobs, Economy and Commerce
  • Transportation and Infrastructure

As with the Downtown Master Plan, Council will be given time to read, digest and ask questions about the visioning process and then asked whether they wish to adopt the document as part of our city Master Plan process.

The great thing I saw last night was that the visioning was consistent with the Downtown Plan already completed.  We are starting to get a common vision for how the city should be operating into the future.

This is the beginning of the process, not the end.  After you’ve had time to review the documents and ideas, feel free to post comments, good and bad, about what you like, agree with, or don’t like and don’t agree with.   No idea is dumb and no viewpoint is wrong.

Have a great week!
