Hi everyone! I’m back from vacation and ready to go again…
Two budget items.
First, we have now started the 2016 budget process. The starting pieces were sent out to Department heads last week for completion. As they come in, I’ll be meeting with each department to discuss 2016 goals and objectives and how they fit into their budget. The 2016 budget will be presented to City Council in October, passed in November and will take effect in December to be ready for 2016.
Second, we received notice on July 14th that the City of Middletown has again received the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association. As stated in their press release,
The award “reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, the entity had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity’s budget serves as: a policy document; a financial plan; an operations guide; and a communication device. Budget documents must be rated ‘proficient’ in all four categories, and the fourteen mandatory criteria within those categories, to receive the award.”
Congratulations to our Finance Department for again providing the best budgeting materials to the public.
Finally, we should have our finances available on the City web page over the next month or so. We are working with the vendor now to make their software talk to our software so that the process stays updated and working correctly.
Have a great week!
